Hamster phone recharger
August 30th, 2005
Well the heading and this picture says it all. The 16 yrs old g33k hooked up his hamster whell to a mobile phone charger.

“Elvis does the legwork while Peter charges his phone in an economically and environmentally friendly way.
He came up with the idea after his sister Sarah complained that Elvis was keeping her awake at night by playing for hours on his exercise wheel.”

Mobile phones are a traffic danger!
August 20th, 2005
BBC has an interesting article about how the use of mobile phones in traffic are a clear danger amongst teenagers!
“Some 30% of London teenagers admit they are distracted by using their mobile phones when crossing the road, a survey has shown.
The findings by road safety group THINK! also revealed 21% of 11-16 year olds had been in a traffic accident or “near miss”"
I felt quite guilty when I read it – since i text when crossing the street or on my bicycle. I even sometimes get the *wow* feeling og a near miss when traffic gets close to me – but it does not make me stop texting.
Ohh and BTW. Im not a teenager :-)
The mobile makes people lazy and sloppy
August 18th, 2005
This article by the telegraph describes how the main stream mobile has made people think of time as something more plastique.
“Nearly one in five people admitted to being unreliable about timekeeping because they had the “safety net” of a mobile. Three quarters said mobiles had made them more “flexible” when meeting friends – allowing them to arrange or cancel social gatherings at the last minute.”
It’s the beginning of the end. People are only thinking about their OWN time…
Not a word on the people waiting…

Douglas Engelbart is a genius!
June 30th, 2005
I have earlier read the article on the “AUGMENTING HUMAN INTELLECT: A Conceptual Framework” The thought of using computers to free man from the more trival tasks in life is indeed very compelling.

The notion that the ability to manipulate information is essential in the evolution of mans intellect I think is spot on. I recently read a very concise article about Doglas Engelbart on wikipedia – and would like to give it must read status.
Its essential for anybody interested in why computers with graphical user interfaces even exist ( and what the general idea of computing is). He is the real deal: philosophy, technology and good vibes in one big bundle.
Did I mention he also invented: the notion of hypertext and the mouse as a pointing device – ohh and then he did the “The Mother of All Demos.”…
Go here for the full article: wikipedia.org – you won’t be sorry.
