The days keynote is really exciting Virpi Roto (Principal Scientist Nokia Research Center) is giving a great keynote.

She is for instance making a clear differentiation between Usability (optimal functional ease of use) which we can measure versus User Experience which is subjective.

Virpi Roto managed to make the whole auditorium silent, and people were just taking pictures of her slides (like the two below).

Virpi also introduced the “dream of brand building” as seen below. Total brand dedication that people get a tattoo:

She went on to state that although Nokia is the world 5′TH most valued brand, she has never seen a Nokia tatoo.

Another key point Virpi made was the need for clear metrix

They are pulling a “Microsoft” on the phone as a platform!

Who cares who make the hardware? It all about owning the platform, and guess who owns the platform and soon will own frequency spectrum in the US – that’s right: google.com

Iljin Display of South Korea would embark on mass production of super small projectors allowing the display of video images stored in mobile handsets with a maximum size of 20-inch from September. Last year the company developed its Nano Projector that enables users to project video images from mobile handsets on a wall by incorporating Single LCD Panel technology. Iljin Display recently signed an agreement with SK Telecom for an exclusive commercialization of Nano Projectors. Under the deal, the Korean vendor will commence mass production of Nano Projector for use in SK Telecom mobile phones from September, and SK Telecom will receive the products to sell them at home and abroad.

We’ve shown you tiny phones before, but this is getting ridiculous: the Xun Chi 138 is scarcely larger than an AA battery and it weighs just two ounces. Too small to even dial, it requires you to use a stylus on a touchscreen and plug in a headset to talk and listen.

Since it only supports Chinese character recognition, we won’t be seeing it stateside anytime soon, but before it’s shipped here the company might consider learning how to spell the word “megapixels.”

It will be VERY interesting to see, what kind of approach these professionals have towards Mobile Interaction Design.

I hope there is a few eye openers coming my way. I am very much stuck in: Tasks, personas, scenarios and Design Patterns.

The latter seems to be taking me towards the structuralistic language theory.  I am not sure that is the simplest way to do Users Experience Design.

The SCH B500 does not simply bank on the credit of having a 7.7 megapixel camera either; its a DMB phone so it can recieve and allow the user to view satellite TV as well. Since the phone can take such high resolution pictures, the user is bound to run out of storage space sooner or later, a problem easily solved by getting T-flash (trans flash) memory cards which the phone supports. The pictures can then be later seen on a TV screen thanks to the TV out function of the SCH B500.

Actually I like the Shortcodes way more than the wussy Yellow arrow (http://yellowarrow.net/index2.php).Shortcodes are simply smarter and made with so many business applications. Ok Yellow arrow is a community for half-creatives whom can splurge into technology and be attention whores on a flash site *ok doing it a bit much maybe – just dam tired of these half wits pushing locationbased blogging like its the cure for cancer…*

Any way – my money is on shotcode.com/ – it might only be infrastructure but the only RISK I see is getting the app on the phones etc. They have a great concept.

The thing is consumers want more information about the origins of the food they eat, and that means that you have to accommodate more accurate tracing of goods in your value chain. If that is to be done by using RFID or similar � that�s a lot of tags!:

�We looked at the processes and realized every single commodity, every supply chain, had its own definition of traceability and [implementation mechanisms]. So when you get to [the] retail level, it can potentially become a nightmare,” Sherwood says. “You would have to support 15-20 ways to track products: beef one way, pork another, chicken yet another, and so on. The retailer would [face] a complete mess of information requirements and systems.�

Barcodes probably can�t do the trick � actually they could turn out to be even more expensive than RFID due to the scanning process.

I think this is great! I would love to be able to take my handheld and point at a steak to see if its Argentinean and whether the poor cow had been given penicillin.
