I do not know why this sort of thing appeals so greatly to me. I think its the mentality since it doesn’t really have much use (unless you count fun) – its g33ky and übercool at the same time.

The system was done by Cornell and I am wondering why we here in Denmark (where I am from) never really see this type of dedication from students? I mean – this team – actually made the whole thing… not a concept, not a document describing possible social implications, not a mock up or proof of concept. They just made the WHOLE thing as part of a 5 week course!.

Wall of Pong is a fast-moving, interactive, laser-based pong game playable on any flat surface.

The system uses a digitally controlled laser projection platform to draw a pong ball onto any flat surface. This allows for a large playing area that can be set up almost anywhere. Hand held paddles with embedded sensors are given to each player. The real life paddles increases the interactivity of the game and makes it an enjoyable and dynamic derivative of the original PONG arcade game.

An excerp:

A paper published in the September issue of the journal Psychological Science proposes a new explanation for this phenomenon: Prototypical faces are pleasing because they’re easy for the brain to process.
