The definition of genius is to see the same thing as everyone else and extrapolate something great from.

1 million people leaned back in their chairs but it took Enstien to derive E=MC2 from it.

5 million people had been hit by apples, it took newton to deduce the laws of gravity.

25.32 million people have heard manilow, it took Daft Punk to make it sound good.

I rest my case...

Well,

I actually thought that Daft Punk was an elctroband and that made the majority of the stuff themselves.

I had no idea that was how they made their numbers. Although several people have pointed out that this is common knowledge I simply had another impression.

I still like the CD I have with their music, but it changed in value, because I thought that they actually did the whole thing themselves. That was more the point. I thought more of them.

Erm -- they are DJs. Sampling music is what DJs do. Surely you don't think Fatboy Slim, Moby or Chemical Brothers wrote the majority of their music, so why expect that of Daft Punk?

It's not very likely that you have an Edwin Birdsong or Banny Manilow LP sitting around, and if you did, you wouldn't listen to it just for the 5-second loop found by Daft Punk.

Personally, I find this far more creative than the bland covers being churned out by the latest boy-band or girl-band.
